My first character was a ranger and ive leveled to 20 in the nightfall campaign in some boring Markmanship build my friend suggested...=/

ive been experimenting with creating my own build namely focusing on the rangeer's ability to dish out conditions and this is what i have so far,

1. Conjure Phantasm
2. Kindle arrows or Poison arrows
3. Poison arrow or Incendiary arrows
4. Hunter's Shot
5. Dual shot
6. Troll Unguent
7. (defensive stance not sure which yet)
8. res sig

any advice would be appreiciated, thank in advance

your friend's build is likely much better than this one. you have a hex that you cannot afford to cast with any frequency, not enough conditions to "dish out conditions", and not enough damage to kill much of anything.

Burning arrow plus poison and you've got better degen than Conjure

if by "poison arrows" you mean [[apply poison] then ok
also if by "conjure phantasm" you mean [[distracting shot] then ok
oh and if by "poison arrow or incendiary arrows" you mean [[melandru's shot] or [[burning arrow] then ok
and if by "dual shot" you mean [[savage shot] then ok
and if by "troll unguent" you mean [[mending touch] then ok
and your defensive stance should be [[natural stride]

Mesmer can offer some nice options, but not degen. Ranger just can't afford the energy cost to use those spells with any efficiency. The only skills I can see a Ranger making use of from Mesmer secondary would be the following - and not all in one build of course.

[fragility][epidemic][fevered dreams][frustration][extend conditions][mantra of resolve](for trapping builds)[hex breaker][inspired hex][revealed hex][hex eater signet]

Some of those I would never use personally, but can be used decently by a Ranger. However, almost all of them require decent attribute points to be worth using, and you don't want to invest too many points in a secondary attribute most of the time. I only use Epidemic myself.

Degen maxes at -10, so you can easily hit that with skills from yuor primary class. Bleeding is -3, poison is -4, burning is -7, and you can provide all 3 of those with 1 arrow using [barbed arrows][poison tip signet][burning arrow]/[incendiary arrows]. But why would you need to hit -14 when it maxes at -10.

I assume this is PvE, so try to limit yourself to primary skills unless then are from No Attribute, or if they require 8 attribute points or less to be effective. This would allow you to hit a 12-10-8 attribute split for Marksmanship, Expertise, and your secondary.

Tips:

When putting a skill, type [skill] so we can see the pics. Makes life easier for all us lazy ppl.

Here's the harsh crit. This build is terrible.

Conjure phantasm takes too much energy, splits atts, and sucks.

Troll is unnecessary in PvE and Dual shot isn't great.

Incendiary arrows isn't nearly as good as [broadhead arrow]

It doesn't utilize any broken PvE skills.

Lack condition removal and worst of all [distracting shot] is missing.
